为了锻炼学生英语书面表达的能力给和提高学生英语学习的积极性，在我校第三届外语节中，中学部九年级和国际高中全体学生于12月末开展了英语作文初赛和决赛。
In order to improve students’ writing skills and stimulate their motivation of learning English, students from the ninth grade and international high school have successfully taken part in the English Writing Contest at the end of December.
本次活动以英语写作的形式， 作文以半开放式命题，其中命题内容分别包括从文化层面去分析“学习不同文化的重要性”，到科技领域，讨论科技发展对我们的利与弊，以及贴近生活化的主题，例如“如何健康地生活”、“我们的生活发生了怎样的变化”等，学生通过以英语写作为载体，不仅引领学生真正了解中西方文化差异，而且也让他们更多地去思考和亲身感受当下时代发生的种种变化，与此同时，也提高了他们英语知识的综合运用能力。
The activity is held in the form of English Writing Contest, and the topics of the English composition range from analyzing the importance of learning different cultures from the perspective of culture, to discussing the costs and benefits brought by the development of technology, as well as how to enjoy a healthy life and so on. Students can not only truly understand the difference between Chinese and western cultures, but also let them more think and feel various and great changes at the moment in this contest, meanwhile, it helps to strengthen their comprehensive ability to use English knowledge.
活动首先在各班级进行班内展示评比，然后每班选出五份最佳作品并在学校宣传栏进行展示。
The activity is made up of preliminary and final contests in the class and school level. The 5 top writing works have been demonstrated on the school notice board for appreciation.
通过这次大赛，学生不仅获得了自我挑战的机会而且给周围的同学树立了英语学习的榜样。这次活动学校高度重视，学校英语组积极参与，组织并认真辅导学生。这次英语写作大赛，不仅是一次大赛，丰富学生课外英语学习生活；更是一次有意义的教研活动，促进学校英语教学工作的健康发展。
In this competition, our students not only have an opportunity to challenge themselves , but also set good examples for others. Attached great importance by the school leaders, all English teachers have made big efforts to organize the event.
All in all, this activity both enriches students’school life, and promotes the sound developments of English teaching and research.
